RIVERBANK HOUSE
Project commissioned in 2002 for a family of four in central Upstate NY on the Oswego River. Property is along the west bank of the river on a steep sloping site along a rural highway. The tight constraints and view to the river warranted a split butterfly style design that opened views to the east and river allowing for a two-story façade of glazing. With the west side of the home closing view to the highway to minimize road noise and maximize privacy.
The project brief required a large garage, a large kitchen, open entertainment and living spaces, and a small home office for the, Physical Therapy Practice. Slipping the private home spaces from the public Practice space along a concrete structural core allowed for unique garden and deck spaces helping to connect interior living spaces with the natural environment on the east side of the house. This core acts as the buffer and as an anchor binding the house into the hillside allowing large cantilevers. Project went on hold and then released in 2018 for design development. Due to unforeseen circumstances the property had to be sold off.
